What is PluMesh
Built for FDS engineers who need precision and efficiency
PluMesh is a standalone mesh generation tool for Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS), the open-source simulation software developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). It reads your existing FDS input file and automatically extracts the geometry and mesh domain — then the user defines the mesh configuration: base cell size, surface refinements, and transition zones. From that input, PluMesh generates a fully optimised, multi-resolution mesh in a fraction of the time it would take manually.
Unlike manual mesh configuration, PluMesh ensures cell alignment across mesh boundaries, guarantees zero mesh overlaps, and respects minimum cell counts — letting you refine around fire sources and critical surfaces at the click of a button. The output is a complete, simulation-ready mesh written directly back into your FDS file.
Once generated, every mesh block can be inspected, edited, split, or resized in the interactive post-processing panel — with all changes reflected instantly in the 3D viewer.
